SmoothDraw is a utility that allows free-hand painting. It includes most of the features you can find in other similar utilities and a lot more. Besides, it’s rather easy to use, so after a short exploration of its interface, you’ll be working with it without difficulty. It’s a pity that the program doesn´t provide any kind of help. Although the utility uses its own format to save your projects, the results can be exported to a wide range of popular picture formats.
The application has an intuitive interface but, unfortunately, it looks somewhat old-fashioned. It has a customizable express toolbar in which you can put the most frequently used tools. By the way, the application has 32 drawing tools, including the standard ones and some others, such as Graffiti, Star, Grass, Clone Brush, Dodge, and Blur. I would have liked the program to allow saving the toolbar configurations so that you can load them according to the project's characteristics.
In my opinion, the most convenient feature of this program is the possibility of using layers, which lets you work with parts of the painting without affecting the others. Moreover, the layers can be arranged in a specific order and merged into a single one. Besides, for each of the added layers, you can specify a blend mode and an opacity level. Another interesting feature is the use of a dab image, working as a brush that reproduces a pattern loaded from an external picture file. more
